West Allerdale Sure Start Children`s Centre is situated in the coastal town of Maryport and surrounding rural areas. It includes two communities that are ranked in the top 10% of most deprived communities and one that falls within the top 10-20%. The centre is located within two sites in large housing estates and numerous outreach venues across the footprint. The administrate centre is on the edge of town. 

The day-to-day management and provision of service delivery at West Allerdale Children`s Centre is the responsibility of Barnardo`s as part of a three year contract awarded by Cumbria County Council in April 2008. The Children`s Centre has links with health, social care, training providers, JCP, extended services, local schools, Maryport Health Services and Connexions with many partners operating from the centre.

The Centre provides a range of targeted and universal services including mobile and static early years provision these include Dads Clown-Around & Splash-Around sessions, Grand Tots and grandparents supportl Breastfeeding & Peer Support Groupsl; Chrysalis (postnatal depression & self injury) Therapeutic Support Groupl Teens Groupl Baby Massage courses, Family Learning & Fun Events, Parenting courses, Family Support, Health and Safety campaigns, Confidence Building, Pre-vocational and Vocational courses, Holiday Activity Schemes and an active Parents Forum.
